Made for a dog's taste buds

Most plant-based foods were made by humans, for humans. Ours was taste-tested by dogs until they said yes: first-of-its-kind morsels in savory gravy.

Our cat recipe is going through the same rigorous taste testing, and we'll release it as soon as it's ready.

Cassi, a brown and white dog, watching as a bowl of Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food is prepared on the table
“Cassi was a fan! She was very curious + sniffing as I prepped the food + then went straight to eating. It took her longer to eat than normal kibble because morsels are less easy to inhale. . .which is a good thing :-)”
Rena SGuardian of Cassi
Cole, a shaggy black dog, eating Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food from a metal bowl in a wooden stand
“He usually sniffs and walks away, then grazes.. so immediately eating it up was a huge difference. I've been trying to figure out how to make his diet more interesting to him, thanks!”
Leigh PGuardian of Cole
Dakota, a curly white dog who eats Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food, sitting by the patio doors near her food bowls
“I don't think my dogs ever enjoyed food more than this and she is 16 years old!”
Laura HGuardian of Dakota
Rudy and Doug, a yellow Lab and a black Lab who eat Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food, smiling up at the camera outdoors
“They both loved it! My older pup, Rudy, especially benefited from soft morsels instead of hard kibble. It's so much better for his dining experience.”
Katey MGuardian of Rudy & Doug
Jill, a fluffy black and white dog who eats Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food, sitting on a rug near her food bowl
“Jill looooved the food!”
Maria NGuardian of Jill
Moose, in a gray sweater, and Oscar, two white poodle mixes, eating Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food from bowls
“Both of our dogs devoured it… I know Moose especially loved the food because he did his 'happy roll' on the couch afterward—something he only does after a truly exceptional meal! … It felt good to know that I wasn't feeding our dogs mystery meat.”
Beth FGuardian of Moose & Oscar
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a fluffy tan dog, licking her lips over a bowl of Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food
“Omg, she's never eaten anything so fast”
Dylan WGuardian of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

“Scuppers is super picky and he loved it!”

Tamale, a black and tan dog, eating from a yellow bowl outdoors
“Tamale loves it! She's a very picky eater but finished her dinner in record time, so fast we may need to get a slow feeder”
Marcie MGuardian of Tamale
Tilly, a black dog, eating Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food from a metal bowl in the kitchen
“That is amazing. . .she's such a finicky eater. We've been looking for a plant based food she would eat because of her allergies and her vets recommendation. She normally just looks at the food and walks away and will come back to it later.”
Robert & Lisa PGuardian of Tilly
Tiramisu, a fluffy blonde dog, and Biscotti, a black-and-tan dog in an orange collar, eating Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food from white bowls
“My dogs can't get enough of Virtuous Vittles!”
Paul MGuardian of Tiramisu & Biscotti
Ziggy, a scruffy cream-colored dog, eating Virtuous Vittles vegan dog food from a white bowl on the lawn
“Ziggy is OBSESSED! He absolutely demolished [it] and was so unimpressed with his regular food this morning that I think we may have ruined him forever 😂”

    Vegan dog food FAQs

    Ask us anything

Answers to common questions about our 100% plant-based dog nutrition.

Is vegan dog food safe for long-term feeding?

Yes, when properly formulated. The longest-running research, including a 2024 one-year clinical trial in PLOS ONE and a 2024 controlled reanalysis of 2,536 dogs in Heliyon, supports the safety of nutritionally complete plant-based diets across health markers from coat condition to ear and musculoskeletal health. The key qualifier in every study is “nutritionally complete”: a diet that meets AAFCO nutrient profiles, formulated by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and verified by independent testing. Virtuous Vittles is formulated by Dr. Sarah Dodd and third-party tested against a full AAFCO panel.

Is Virtuous Vittles complete and balanced with all the essential amino acids my dog or cat needs?

Every Virtuous Vittles recipe meets or exceeds AAFCO nutrient profiles for its intended life stage. We formulate with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to combine complementary plant proteins, creating a full spectrum of essential amino acids in ideal proportions. Each recipe is validated through third-party lab testing for nutrient accuracy and safety — so every meal delivers complete, balanced nourishment backed by science.

Does your food contain taurine for heart health?

Yes. Taurine is essential for cats and conditionally essential for some dogs. It supports healthy heart, eye, and urinary function — yet it’s virtually absent from plants and severely reduced by heat in many animal-based foods. That’s why all high-quality diets include supplemental taurine. Virtuous Vittles uses pure, vegan, bioidentical taurine made through natural fermentation for optimal absorption, ensuring every recipe supports normal cardiovascular function and overall wellness.

Will my dog like the taste?

Most likely, yes — most dogs love it. We crafted Virtuous Vittles to satisfy even devoted meat eaters, testing our recipes with real canine taste panels until tails wagged and bowls were licked clean. The gentle steam-cooking process preserves natural aroma and texture, making each meal rich, hearty, and irresistible — proof that nourishment and flavor can go paw in paw.

Is Virtuous Vittles free from common allergens?

Bountiful Land® contains no beef, chicken, dairy, egg, lamb, pork or fish, the animal proteins behind about 80% of confirmed canine food allergies. It contains wheat (wheat gluten) but no soy or corn, so it’s easy to avoid if wheat is your dog’s trigger. It’s complete and balanced, formulated by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and free of artificial additives and preservatives: an allergy-friendly choice that supports skin, coat and digestive health.

Is your food easy to digest for sensitive stomachs?

Yes — our formulas are designed for optimal digestibility. Plant-based proteins and fibers are paired with prebiotic-rich ingredients like pumpkin and beet to support healthy gut bacteria and smooth digestion. The gentle, moisture-rich texture of wet food further eases absorption and helps maintain a balanced microbiome, making Virtuous Vittles an excellent option for animals with sensitive stomachs or food intolerances.

How do I transition my dog to Virtuous Vittles?

Virtuous Vittles is crafted to be irresistible from the very first sniff, so many dogs dive right in. If your dog is used to variety, you can often make the switch quickly. For dogs accustomed to one food or with more sensitive stomachs, we recommend a gradual 10–14 day transition: start with 25% Virtuous Vittles mixed into their current food, then increase to 50%, 75%, and finally 100%. This slow shift helps the digestive system and microbiome adjust comfortably.

Can I try Virtuous Vittles before committing?

Yes — we offer Sampler Packs so your dog or cat can taste Virtuous Vittles before you buy a full case. Most companions love the flavor and texture right away, but if yours doesn’t, we’ll make it right.
